How We Support Spinal Discomfort

The term vertebral subluxation is commonly used in chiropractic settings to describe an area of the spine believed to have altered movement or positioning. Patients seeking care for what has been described as a vertebral subluxation may experience symptoms such as neck or back discomfort, stiffness, muscle tension, or difficulty moving comfortably.

These symptoms can have many possible causes. Muscle strain, joint irritation, repetitive activity, prolonged sitting, injuries, degenerative changes, disc-related conditions, and other musculoskeletal problems may all contribute to neck or back discomfort.

At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center in Lincoln Park, our acupuncture and complementary therapies focus on helping manage the symptoms and functional limitations a patient is experiencing rather than claiming to mechanically reposition or realign the vertebrae.

Depending on your individual needs, care may focus on helping manage discomfort, surrounding muscle tension, stiffness, mobility limitations, and other musculoskeletal symptoms that affect everyday activity.

Because neck and back symptoms can develop for many different reasons, care should be individualized based on the location and severity of discomfort, mobility, activity demands, health history, and any underlying musculoskeletal condition.

Acupuncture, massage, cupping, and acupressure may be incorporated into a broader care plan to help manage discomfort and surrounding muscle tension. Physical therapy may also be appropriate when strength, mobility, movement patterns, or rehabilitation need to be addressed.

Spinal Decompression may be considered when an appropriate evaluation identifies certain disc-related or spinal conditions for which decompression is suitable. It should not be presented as a general method for correcting a vertebral subluxation.

These complementary therapies do not mechanically realign the spine, reposition vertebrae, or guarantee correction of a structural spinal condition. Persistent or significant neck or back symptoms should be appropriately evaluated to determine their underlying cause.

The original page links vertebral subluxation directly with conditions such as arthritis, nerve compression, disc degeneration, weakness, postural problems, and other complications. Those conditions should not automatically be presented as consequences of an untreated vertebral subluxation because neck and back symptoms can have many different underlying causes.

Seek prompt medical evaluation for new or progressive weakness, significant numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin or saddle area, severe symptoms following significant trauma, fever with severe spinal pain, or other rapidly worsening neurological symptoms.

At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center, complementary care may be incorporated into an individualized plan focused on helping manage discomfort, muscle tension, mobility, and overall function while working alongside appropriate medical or rehabilitation care when needed.
