Tendonitis in Chicago
How We Help Tendonitis!
Tendonitis refers to irritation or inflammation involving a tendon, the strong connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone. Tendon problems commonly develop from repetitive activity, overuse, sudden increases in physical activity, or repeated stress on a particular area.
Tendonitis can affect many parts of the body, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. Symptoms may include localized pain, tenderness, stiffness, discomfort during movement, and reduced ability to comfortably perform work, exercise, sports, or everyday activities.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center in Lincoln Park, we provide acupuncture and complementary therapies that may be incorporated into a broader tendonitis care plan to help manage discomfort, surrounding muscle tension, stiffness, and mobility limitations.
Because tendonitis can affect different tendons and develop for different reasons, care should be individualized based on the affected area, duration of symptoms, activity demands, strength, mobility, health history, and recovery goals.
Physical therapy and appropriate rehabilitation may help address strength, flexibility, movement patterns, and gradual return to activity. Acupuncture, massage, cupping, acupressure, and other complementary approaches may be incorporated to help manage discomfort and surrounding muscle tension.
Shockwave Therapy may be considered for certain chronic tendon-related conditions, while Cold Laser Therapy may be incorporated into care for selected musculoskeletal conditions. The appropriate therapy depends on the tendon involved and the type and stage of the condition.
These therapies should not be described as mechanically repairing a torn tendon or guaranteeing restoration of normal tendon structure. Significant or persistent symptoms may require medical evaluation, imaging, rehabilitation, or orthopedic care.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING
How Can Tendonitis Affect Daily Life?
Tendonitis can make repetitive or load-bearing movements uncomfortable and may interfere with work, exercise, sports, household activities, and other everyday tasks.
Tendonitis may be associated with:
- Localized tendon pain or tenderness
- Pain that increases with repetitive movement or activity
- Stiffness around the affected area
- Reduced comfortable range of motion
- Reduced strength or tolerance for activity
- Difficulty lifting, gripping, reaching, running, or performing other movements
- Difficulty participating comfortably in sports or exercise
- Difficulty completing repetitive work tasks
- Recurring discomfort when returning to activity
- Reduced comfort during everyday activities
Persistent tendon symptoms should be appropriately evaluated. What is commonly called tendonitis may sometimes involve longer-term tendon changes, a partial tear, another musculoskeletal injury, or a different source of pain.
Seek prompt medical evaluation for sudden severe pain, a popping or snapping sensation followed by loss of function, significant weakness, visible deformity, substantial swelling or bruising, inability to use the affected area, or symptoms following a significant injury.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center, complementary care may be incorporated into an individualized plan focused on helping manage discomfort, mobility, and overall function while supporting an appropriate return to everyday activity.
