How We Help Shoulder Pain!
The shoulder is a highly mobile joint that depends on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and surrounding structures working together to provide movement and stability. Because of this complexity, shoulder pain can develop for many different reasons.
Shoulder discomfort may be associated with overuse, repetitive activity, muscle tension, tendon irritation, rotator cuff problems, bursitis, joint changes, injury, or other conditions. Symptoms may include pain, tenderness, stiffness, weakness, or difficulty comfortably raising and moving the arm.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center in Lincoln Park, we provide acupuncture and complementary therapies that may be incorporated into a broader shoulder care plan to help manage discomfort, surrounding muscle tension, stiffness, and mobility limitations.
Because shoulder pain can come from many different structures and conditions, care should be individualized based on the cause of the symptoms, severity, shoulder strength, range of motion, activity level, health history, and personal goals.
Acupuncture and complementary therapies may be incorporated into a broader approach focused on helping manage discomfort, muscle tension, and comfortable movement. Depending on the underlying condition, rehabilitation, activity modification, exercise, or medical evaluation may also be appropriate.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING
How Can Shoulder Pain Affect Daily Life?
Shoulder pain can interfere with many everyday movements because the shoulder is involved in reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, dressing, driving, working, exercising, and many other activities.
Shoulder pain may be associated with:
- Pain or tenderness around the shoulder
- Shoulder stiffness
- Reduced comfortable range of motion
- Difficulty reaching overhead or behind the back
- Difficulty lifting or carrying objects
- Shoulder or arm weakness
- Difficulty completing work or household activities
- Discomfort during exercise or sports
- Difficulty sleeping on the affected shoulder
- Reduced participation in everyday activities
Persistent shoulder pain should be appropriately evaluated because rotator cuff injuries, tendinopathy, bursitis, arthritis, frozen shoulder, joint injuries, and other conditions can produce similar symptoms. Identifying what is contributing to the pain can help guide the appropriate approach to care.
Seek prompt medical evaluation for severe shoulder pain after an injury, visible deformity, substantial swelling, inability to move or raise the arm, sudden or significant weakness, numbness or loss of sensation, fever with a red or hot joint, or shoulder discomfort accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, or other sudden concerning symptoms.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center, complementary care may be incorporated into an individualized plan focused on helping manage shoulder discomfort, muscle tension, mobility, and overall well-being.
